“What Kind of Pumpkin Are You?” Tag

Purple Rose over at Confessions and Thoughts of A Reluctant Preacher’s Daughter tagged me in their “What Kind of Pumpkin Are You?” tag! Thanks so much! I’ve never participated in anything like this before, but I thought it would be fun so I decided to give it a go.

Here are my answers:

1. Do you celebrate Halloween? Why or why not?

When my sisters and I were young, my dad worked nights and my mom didn’t want to go through the hassle of getting us all dressed up and going around the neighborhood. Then one year (I don’t remember why) we decided to go to my grandparent’s house for Halloween and trick-or-treat there. It was very exciting for me back then because I had always wanted to but was always told “no.” We continued going to my grandparent’s house and trick-or-treating with my cousins for several years after. One year, I decided to go with a friend instead and that kind of broke the “tradition.”

Another year, we helped our pastor with his hotdog tent and handed out free hotdogs, hot chocolate, cider, and of course, candy, to trick-or-treaters. The year after that, which was last year, I decided that I had gotten too old to go around asking for candy so I just stayed home and did nothing. Because I live on a busy street, nobody ever comes, so I couldn’t really hand out candy even if I wanted to. This year will probably be the same.

Halloween, for me, was just a day to go out and get free candy. We were never allowed to dress up as anything “bad” like witches or ghosts or anything–I’ve done Thumbelina, Olaf from Frozen, Little Red Riding Hood, a generic cowgirl, and cute things like that. We’ve NEVER decorated our house for Halloween or fall besides the occasional pumpkin. Last year was the first year in a long time that we actually carved pumpkins.

2. Do you like to watch scary movies? Why or why not?

Not really. My parents are pretty strict about what I watch, so I haven’t really seen any “scary” movies. Probably the one that scared me most (at the time) was Indiana Jones XD.

3. Name 3 of your greatest fears.

Not being perfect enough

Roller-coasters (I used to be scared of escalators too, but thankfully I got over that!)

Social situations (I’m an extreme introvert, so even talking on the phone makes me nervous)

4. When was the last time you scared someone?

I have a really bad habit of not addressing people when I speak to them. Very recently, I was at my volunteer job and had a question so I walked over to the person and just started talking. It made her jump because I kind of came up behind her. I can’t remember a time I’ve ever scared someone on purpose though!

5. Do you believe in ghosts, angels, and/or demons?

Angels and demons are most definitely real, and “ghosts” I guess would just be demons. The Bible says that “our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.”

6. Do you ever get déjà vu? What do you think it means?

Yes, I do! Not so much recently, but I’ve definitely had those moments in the past. I’m not sure what it means; there’s probably some kind of scientific reason why we feel as though we’re reliving an incident.

7. What are two of your favorite candies?

Cadbury creme eggs (which are unfortunately only sold around Easter time) and Milkyway bars
